Lending Office
State
Street, Newburyport, MA
The original State Street facade
of the building was totally redesigned. The new
entrance visually frames the front of the Main
bank building across Prospect Street and provides
a highly accessible and inviting entrance into
the Lending Office.
The interior plan is a progression of 4 clearly
defined spaces:
The high public entry and display space
houses an informative video display area that
describes to a new buyer the steps involved in
buying a home and a personal computer station
for the use of customers
An inviting waiting and receptionist area
adjacent to the entry space
Private executive offices and small conference
rooms along the side of the waiting area
A large accessible public conference room at the
rear of the building
The high attic space that existed under the front
peaked roof of the original building was completely
hidden from view by the 12' high suspended metal
ceiling, as shown in the photograph. The architect
removed the ceiling and exposed the roof structure.
A clerestory skylight was added to enhance the
dramatic quality of this entrance space, bathing
the public area in natural light.
